Elders

Board of Directors must review and amend policies to ensure elders are valued and respected, thus maintaining their rightful place of honor as keepers of knowledge of our sacred ways of life.

  • Elders have always played a central role in various Indigenous communities which is an inter-generational process.
  • Elders are keepers of traditional knowledge. They are the guardians of our culture.
  • They are often referred to as the wise ones, the teachers and healers of our respective communities.
  • Elders in our various communities are those recognized and highly respected for their knowing, teaching, and living the traditional ways.
  • In many instances they are also the healers and glue that hold us together.
  • Elders embody the world through the eyes of our ancestors… Elders represent another way of viewing the universe.
  • The elders are the body of knowledge that encompasses our indigenous belief systems, ways of thinking and behaving.
  • Elders emulate our ceremonies, stories, songs, dances, and language.
