Jolene Saulis
Professional Development Officer
Jolene Saulis is a Maliseet from Tobique First Nation located in New Brunswick. She has a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Ottawa and another undergraduate degree at Carleton University in Law. For over 10 years Jolene has actively worked in the area of Aboriginal issues covering the spectrums of justice and corrections, education, health and Aboriginal women's issues, human rights and matrimonial real property. Her most recent work as the Team Lead of Research and Policy on the Sisters in Spirit Initiative has provided her great insight into the reality of First Nations peoples, particularly women and children. In light of these experiences, Jolene is committed to enabling positive change for First Nations across Canada.
Jolene also has taken training in the area of Conflict Resolution through the Canadian Institute of Conflict Resolution. She has been Co-Chair of the Aboriginal Peoples Justice Committee in Ottawa, and strongly promotes the idea of restorative justice practices. She is grounded in the area of professional development from her experiences as the Coordinator of the Aboriginal Training Program at the Canadian Museum of Civilization for three years.
Jolene has been involved in a number of volunteer initiatives at the community level. For example, she sat on the Board of Directors for a Women's Shelter in Ottawa for a number of years, and also volunteered to work with the Aboriginal Sport Circle' summer hockey camps.
One of Jolene's greatest passions is playing sports - notably hockey and soccer. Jolene resides in Ottawa with her partner and looks forward to contributing to the NCFNG team.
