The Transitional Governance Program provides multi-year support to First Nations who are working to move beyond their Indian Act administration toward their own self-determining government. The Centre provides participating First Nations with a range of services to assist in rebuilding effective and efficient governance with their people and over their territories.

Services include mentoring and training opportunities for leaders, administrators and community members. Citizens create the vision, priorities and mandate for change. Leaders and administrators develop the work-plans, strategies and policies needed to advance step by step to self-governance. The First Nation works toward exercising jurisdiction over its territories and developing a nation to nation relationship with the Crown and other First Nations.

First Nations who participate in the Transitional Governance Project are given an opportunity to learn from the experience of other First Nations who are on the path to self-determination.

The Centre provides an introductory workshop for leaders and administrators. Funding for the program may be available from various agencies. If you are interested in learning more about the Transitional Governance Program, email us at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
